One Direction take the United States by storm. The five good-looking boys, who claimed their fame after participating on "The X Factor" season 7, become talk of the town after making a notable mark both on Billboard Hot 100 and Hot 200.
The boyband landed at No. 28 on the U.S. single chart with their single "What Makes You Beautiful". It marked a highest debut for any U.K. act since Jimmy Ray landed at No. 26 and a highest entry by a U.K. group since Spice Girls bowed at No. 11.
In the album chart, the boys soared to No. 1 with "Up All Night". By doing so, they beat The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Spice Girls, Coldplay, Radiohead and Queen by becoming the first U.K. group to top the weekly rundown at a first try.
"We simply cannot believe that we are No.1 in America! It's beyond a dream come true for us. We want to thank each and every one of our fans in the U.S. who bought our album and we would also like to thank the American public for being so supportive of us," Harry Styles said.
Niall Horan added, "We just found out that we are No.1 in America and as you can imagine, we are over the moon! When we got put together as a group, we couldn't imagine ourselves coming to America, let alone releasing our album here, so for us to be sitting at the top of the US album charts is unbelievable. We are so grateful to everyone who has supported us in the U.S."
To celebrate the album release, they held a mall tour for an autograph event. At the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota recently, they broke the single-day attendance record for the mall. Accordingly, more than 11,000 people came to the shopping center.
Next, they will be touring across North America starting May 24 in Fairfax, Va. This becomes their first headlining roadshow but it's actually not their first tour Stateside. They opened for fellow Big Time Rush in the band's previous tour.
Before hitting the road, the boys will visit "Saturday Night Live". Harry Styles and his pals are scheduled to perform on the variety show on April 7 with "Modern Family" actress Sofia Vergara serving as a host.
