Academy Announces Date for 2013 Oscars Ceremony

Two and a half weeks after organizing the 84th Annual Academy Awards, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced the fixed date for next year's Oscars. On Wednesday, March 14, the association confirmed that its 85th edition of the prestigious awards will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2013.

"The ceremony will take place at the Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, and will be televised live by the ABC Television Network to more than 225 countries," the AMPAS said in a statement. The shortlisted nominations, meanwhile, are scheduled to be revealed on Tuesday, January 15.

The venue for Oscars was originally called the Kodak Theatre, but the name was altered at the last minute before this year's ceremony due to the photo giant bankruptcy. It is still unclear whether the name will change again before next year's show or remain the Hollywood & Highland Center.

At this year's Academy Awards, which took place on February 26, acclaimed French silent drama "The Artist" was awarded with the coveted Best Picture prize in addition to winning four other golden statuettes. Its strong contender, "Hugo", also grabbed five Oscars but none of the kudos were in the headline actor or director categories.
